Peridot is the gem form of the mineral olivine. The word ‘Peridot’ originates from the Arabic word for gem ‘faridat’. Ancient Egyptians called it the ‘Gem of the Sun’ and mined it thousands of years ago on Zabargad, an island in the Red Sea.
Peridot is one of the birthstones for August and celebrates the 16th Anniversary.
