Mali Garnets are named after the West African country Mali where they are found. They are very bright with unusually high dispersion.
Like most gem quality garnets these are formed from a mix of different species of garnet. In this case three species – uvarovite, grossular and andradite, with a gemological name ‘Ugrandite’.
Garnet is the birthstone for January and comes in almost all colors of the spectrum including the rare color-change. Lots of choice for January birthdays!
