Sapphires and Rubies are actually the same mineral – corundum. Pure Corundum is colorless; the trace element chromium is responsible for the red of Ruby and the pink of Pink Sapphire. In a sense, Pink Sapphires are a lighter version of Ruby. They are durable gemstones with a hardness of 9 on the Mohs Scale and can easily be used in all types of jewelry.
